Located approximately 9 miles (20 minutes) south of Downtown Miami in Miami-Dade County and covering approximately 8 square miles, Pinecrest is one of the most beautiful and exclusive residential areas in all of Miami.

Pinecrest has a rich history that stretches back to the beginning of the twentieth century when it was first used as a staging area during the construction of the Overseas Railroad. This project was overseen by Henry Flagler, an extremely wealthy railway tycoon who at one time was a business partner of both John D. and William Rockefeller. The Overseas was completed in 1935, and the following year saw the opening of Parrot Jungle botanical gardens and theme park, now recognized in the National Register of Historical Places.

Incorporated in 1996 and governed by a five-member village council, today Pinecrest is home to approximately 19,000 residents and is a major tourist hub in Florida.

The schools in Pinecrest have an excellent reputation. The facilities are state of the art, and the class sizes are smaller, ensuring a more personalized approach to learning at all levels.

In addition to Palmetto Middle School, Miami Palmetto High School, and the three public elementary schools (Palmetto, Howard Drive, and Pinecrest) there are plenty of other specialized and alternative options for education in Pinecrest, Florida. These include Bet Shira Early Childhood Center which specializes in Jewish education for Pre-K and Kindergarten, as well as private and charter schools. There are also plenty of adult education centers in Pinecrest too, each with different areas of focus.

Although the Parrot Jungle (now commonly referred to simply as Pinecrest Gardens) is the oldest and likely the best known of Pinecrest’s parks, it is by no means its only green space. There are plenty of parks in Pinecrest, and they are all at once both meticulously manicured and wildly natural.

Despite its small size, Pinecrest is bejeweled with lavish parks, plazas and promenades that are shaded by lofty banyan trees. Running streams and chirping birds intermingle to create a mellifluous ambience.

From Flagler Grove Park to Suniland Park, there are plenty of places in Pinecrest to go bike riding, jogging, or simply relax in the shade with a good book.

Residents in Pinecrest enjoy fantastic weather all year long. This is a subtropical climate: summers are hot and humid while the winters are warm and dry (temperatures can still reach as high as 25 degrees during the winter months). The best time of year for outdoor activities is between November and May.

With more than 30 shopping centers, you’ll find all the amenities you need in Pinecrest. Of course, there are options that give Pinecrest its charm. For starters, there’s a weekly farmers’ market located right at historic Pinecrest Garden. Then there’s Wayside Market located right on Old Cutler Road along the bike paths, where you’ll find tons of vendors selling snacks, milkshakes, juices and other treats made with the best locally-sourced fruits, meats, cheese, and other products. Simply put, Pinecrest is a Foodie’s dream.

There was a significant development boom in the 1950s and 1960s in Pinecrest and many of the large, luxury, ranch-style homes in the area have been wonderfully preserved. Most homes sit on half-acre lots (at a minimum) and are fantastic, long-term investment opportunities.
